      <image:title>Nicholas Moenich - Nicholas Moenich</image:title>
<image:caption>Taking inspiration from art history, mythology, music and science fiction, Nicholas Moenich’s paintings and drawings create psychological spaces through a complex and personal formal language that is situated between figuration and abstraction. Incremental and anxious marks create optical confusion through figure/ground shifts and interlocking forms. Cats, mushrooms, Batmans, snakes and jewels emerge from the density of the picture plane. These characters intertwine with text and dates to explore the anxiety surrounding the creative act and the passing of time. The fragmented compositions of the paintings and drawings are direct metaphors of our twenty-first century’s hyper-stimulated daily life of interconnecting media. Moenich’s goal is to create paintings and drawings that simultaneously have material presence and believable pictorial space full of a certain humor, exuberance and simplification of form. www.nicholasmoenich.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Stephen Maine - Stephen Maine</image:title>
<image:caption>Stephen Maine is a painter and writer who lives and works in West Cornwall, Connecticut. His paintings and works on paper engage and extend contemporary ideas about color, composition, surface, and process. Maine has developed an idiosyncratic studio procedure that involves the indirect application of paint to substrate by means of elaborate intermediary surfaces that function as printing plates. He controls his palette closely, but otherwise, the material outcome of his process relies heavily on happenstance. Maine’s critical writing has been published regularly in Art in America, ARTnews, Hyperallergic.com, Artnet.com magazine, Art on Paper, Artillery, the New York Sun, and Artcritical.com, where he is a contributing editor. He has taught at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons The New School, and Hartford Art School, and is currently on the faculty of Purchase College, SUNY. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the New York Public Library, the Museum of Modern Art Library Special Collection, the Whitney Museum of Art, Frances Mulhall Achilles Library, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Yale University Art Galleries. www.stephenmaine.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Holly Miller conveys metaphors, beauty and poetry by using humble and poor materials such as thread, tape and plastic bags to create physical and tactile works on paper and paintings. Her work has a minimal sensibility and restrained vocabulary in which she is able to expand and explore within those limits. She pushes our preconceived understanding of what makes a drawing or a painting. Miller has shown nationally and internationally. Selected exhibitions include the Serpentine gallery in London, the Brooklyn Museum, the University of Kentucky Art Museum in Lexington, the Weatherspoon Art Museum in Greensboro NC, Gilman Contemporary gallery in Ketchum Idaho, Lesley Heller gallery, Elizabeth Harris gallery and McKenzie Fine Art in NY and the Studio Stefania Miscetti gallery in Rome. Her work is in the collections of the Arkansas Art Center, the Weatherspoon Art Museum and the University of Kentucky Art Museum. Miller was born in Buffalo NY and was raised in Rome Italy. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from School of Visual Arts. She lives and works between Brooklyn and Vermont. www.hollymillerart.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Jonathan Fabricant - Jonathan Fabricant</image:title>
<image:caption>I am printmaker, painter, and native New Yorker, son of two visual artists. Three years ago, I moved to the Hudson valley acquired a large format press and opened a print studio in West Copake NY. I work mostly with the relief printing technique creating editions as well as singular one-of-a-kind works. I print on paper and also create work on canvass. The works on canvass could be regarded as paintings, but they include and often highlight relief printed areas as well as painted ones. The prints can also have hand-stamped and painted areas. I work with geometric forms, patterns, and grids to find surprising and evocative interactions. I look for joy, movement, space, and atmosphere in both form and color. I like the place where a pattern starts to fall apart but is not yet in chaos or dis-array but becomes “other”, a surprise. I work in series in order to explore the place where the geometric and pattern elements are loosened from their original organization. I often will create a consistent print edition and then when finished I use the blocks to experiment and expand on the original idea. Other times I create blocks not intended for an edition but meant to be used for one-of-a-kind experimental pieces. In the last few years, I have been working with the Russell/Janis Gallery, showing, producing editions, and participating in projects, such as the Foley Cove project. My work has been shown at the ICPNY print annual and the NY Book Arts Fair. www.fabricantstudio.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Amanda Konishi - Amanda Konishi</image:title>
<image:caption>My recent work has been a consideration of the relationship between texture, form, mark-making, and objecthood. Textural and optical sensation, especially as seen in nature, has been a large influence in these pieces, and I often deploy pattern, mark-making and line to chase the essence of the natural world. Physical and visual texture are separate but overlapping stimuli, and often make themselves apparent to me through observing the curve of a shoot, or handling a seedpod. Visual texture is something that seems to be taking on a more defined identity as we are heavily plied with complex image consumption. Even so, I don’t think that it is now any easier to sever optical experience from the tactility of a surface or object, and there is a void left when we experience either end without the half. For me, the relationship between image or object and mark-making is very similar to the relationship between physical and visual textures. The experience of making is not the experience of the object, but they do overlap and are counterpart to each other. A Drawing. The meaning of this is entirely and best to say the mark, best to say it best to show sudden places, best to make bitter, best to make the length tall and nothing broader, anything between the half. - Gertrude Stein, Tender Buttons, 1914 www.akonishi.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Georgia McGovern - Georgia McGovern</image:title>
<image:caption>Georgia McGovern was born in 1988 in the Lower East Side of NYC and currently works between Brooklyn, NY and Sudbury, Vermont – and whatever mountain or woods she is retreating to for rewilding, renewal, and inspiration. As an artist, Georgia’s current work uses natural and found industrial materials such as plant matter, minerals, and wasp galls to wrecked car parts, old scrap metal, and construction material like copper pipes, tile, and drywall. Georgia’s work explores the boundaries of art and craft, and her practice is a conscious political investigation of consumption and ornament in this age of novelty and environmental and social crisis- aka trying to figure out how to “make” “things” in this day and age”. Georgia’s recent exhibitions include The NY Public Library Pictures Collection; Safe Gallery, NY; Land Gallery, Kansas City, MO; and The Walter Phillips Gallery, Banff, Canada. Recent curatorial projects, "In The Weeds" at Olympia, New York and "Citygroup Bulletin" (ongoing) at Citygroup, New York. Georgia is also working on a forthcoming land based sculpture project in California with Boxo Projects, and a two-person show in Montana with Brackett Creek Exhibitions. www.georgiamcgovern.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Marilla Palmer - Marilla Palmer</image:title>
<image:caption>When looking at Marilla Palmer’s artwork it can be hard to tell the difference between her botanical renderings, bits of silk and actual pressed flowers from one of her resource gardens in Lakeville, CT and Brooklyn NY. This blurring of boundaries between nature and artifice draws attention to the environmental question: Is there any place on our planet where we can experience nature without human intervention? Every artwork begins by capturing the fragile blooms in watercolor, then transformation through adornment with stitching, glitter or photographic prints. Palmer has said that “nature is always elegant and always gorgeous. Nature is fragile and dramatic.” Marilla Palmer’s recent solo exhibitions include The Wasp in the Garden, Daphne’s Night Out and Nature Burlesque at Kathryn Markel Fine Art, NY, Debauchee of Dew in a Concrete Landscape at Fringe Exhibitions in Los Angeles, Optimism Reigns and Rains at Pierogi, NY. She has had numerous exhibitions in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles and the Hamptons. Her exhibitions have been reviewed in the New York Times, The New Yorker, Time Out NY, ArtNews and the Lakeville Journal. She has large commissioned pieces at Marsal Caregivers Center at Burke and Sloane Kettering. She received her BFA from Philadelphia College of Art. www.marillapalmer.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Sally Van Doren - Sally Van Doren</image:title>
<image:caption>Sally Van Doren’s lyrical work explores the fertile cognitive territory between word and image. An award-winning poet, her drawings and poems arise from the same source: over 12,000 notebook pages of illegible handwriting. Her new work employs an expanding personal iconography of calligraphic gestures, letters, geometric forms, design motifs and handprints. Layered upon each other, they engage in a dialogue fundamental to a poet’s relationship with language and an artist’s relationship to line, color and form. Her ongoing written and visual text, “The Sense Series,” was part of a multi-media performance at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. She has exhibited at the Cornwall Library in CT and a solo show opens at the Longview Art Gallery in St. Louis in June 2021. Her art is featured recently in the literary magazines december and The 2River View and appears on the cover of Promise, her 2017 book of poems from LSU Press. Widely published in national and international poetry journals such as Poetry London, Poetry Ireland Review, the New Republic and American Poet, she is also the author of the poetry collections Sibilant, Possessive and Sex at Noon Taxes, winner of the Walt Whitman Award. She holds a BA in Comparative Literature from Princeton University and an MFA from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She has taught poetry at the 92nd Street Y in New York, Washington University and the St. Louis Public Schools. Born and raised in St. Louis, she works from her studio in West Cornwall CT. www.sallyvandoren.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Yvonne Estrada - Yvonne Estrada</image:title>
<image:caption>Yvonne Estrada was born and raised in Bogotá, Colombia. New York has been her main residence for four decades. Yvonne’s work is process oriented and her approach is intuitive. She states: “My process like automatic writing, emerges in the flow of stream of consciousness, it is also a form of meditation where intellect and the desire to control is better left out of the studio. I’m interested in the poetics of abstraction and synthesis”” She works in several pieces, having works around in different states of development. Some pieces take a very long time to develop, because of much intricate detail and layering that happens over time. Other more rare pieces happen quickly, as she calls them “one or two breaths”, pieces that celebrate her love for pure gesture and the immediacy of calligraphy, one of her main sources of inspiration. Her work fluctuates between this dynamic of economy and bounty. Nature with its forms and movement, geometry, music, dance and poetry are also worth mentioning as important influences. In regard of her choice of working almost monochromatically with heavily pigmented ultramarine blue for about a decade: It started initially with her attraction with pre digital copies of architectural drawings, yet indigo and other blues have been present in her work on paper or canvas for a long time. Ultramarine however, with its electric, bewitching hue has taken over unapologetically and has been pivotal in the development of her language. Yvonne Estrada has been drawing for as long as she can remember. Started art school in Bogotá at age 17 and continued studies in New York while being the recipient of several scholarships and grants. She has shown at Jason McCoy Gallery, Von Lintel Gallery, The Rotunda Gallery / BRIC among others. She has been the recipient of The Joan Mitchel Foundation Painters Grant, The NY Foundation for the Arts Painters Grant, The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture Grant among others. Her work is included in The JoAnn Gonzalez Hickey Collection, The Dian Woodner Collection, J. P. Morgan, Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, The Art Students League, New York, and many private collections in the US, Europe and South America. yvonnestradastudio.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Jimbo Blachly - Jimbo Blachly</image:title>
<image:caption>The activity of drawing is primary to Jimbo Blachly’s work. In addition to individual drawings and watercolors, he has kept daily notebooks and sketchbooks which make up a large visual diary going back decades. Blachly states: “The responsiveness of line and mark making to the fluidity of thought. The economy of means-ink and reed pen or pencil and the compact portability of small notebooks means I am almost never without the ability to draw or make a quick notation in my day-to-day life. Drawing for me is a mirror, reflecting the relationship between the perceiving mind, the hand and the myriad phenomena be it oak leaves, mosquitoes, memories or burning forests ” Over the past several years Blachly has frequently focused on the parks near his home in upper Manhattan. His paintings, notebooks, watercolors and small objects reflect his ongoing exploration of the genre of landscape and examines a variety of approaches to notions of representation and abstraction. “I am continually searching for an intimate correspondence between the landscape and myself. There is an attempt to record both a sense of time and an aspect of space. A desire to create a marker, memento or token of an experience of a particular place/situation that also opens out to a generalized experience in this ecologically fraught time.” In addition to direct visual observation, auditory information, time of day (or night), weather, etc…, art history, music theory and contemporary poetics also function as prompts for Blachly’s process. Jimbo Blachly (b. 1961) is an artist living in New York City, his installations, performances and objects have been exhibited at the Drawing Center, Franklin Furnace, The New Museum, P.S.1 MOMA, The SculptureCenter in N.Y.C. and Catherine Clark gallery in San Francisco. Blachly participated in The Drawing Center’s Open Sessions program 2014-2016 cycle. In 2011 he had an exhibition of his paintings at Winkleman Gallery in New York. His work is included the Collections of: Beinecke Library, Yale University; Columbia University; Spenser Collection, The New York Public Library; Fine Arts Library, Harvard University; Newberry Library, Chicago; Amherst College Library. A limited edition book of his drawings is set to be published in 2021. jimboblachly.com</image:caption>

      <image:title>Bettina Blohm - Bettina Blohm</image:title>
<image:caption>Bettina Blohm is a New York and Berlin based painter. In over 30 years she has developed a vocabulary of shapes and gestures, a limited set of tools with which she works, concentrating on pattern, repetition, rhythm, scale and color. Working in a predominantly monochrome mode, with shifting lines of varies thickness, Blohm works slowly to open up a kind of intermediate space. She builds her image layer upon layer, often wiping off entire sections, to create interiors that gradually impart a sense of urgent intensity beneath seemingly playful exteriors. Blohm’s most recent works on paper, completed in Berlin, hint at geometry, albeit rendered with a free hand rather than precise tools. Lines slip, and tilt or bend the space, the works have an appearance of being in flux, of unstable geometry. Bettina Blohm was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1961. She moved to New York in 1984, establishing a second studio in Berlin in 2008. Recent solo exhibitions include gallery Kajetan, Berlin (2020), Museum Haus am Waldsee im Bikini (2018), Gallery Werner Klein, Cologne (2017), Gallery Marc Straus, New York (2014). Her work is included in the permanent collections of the Busch Reisinger Museum, Harvard, Städel Museum, Frankfurt, Kunsthalle Bremen, Berlinische Galerie, Berlin, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, Museum Pfalzgalerie Kaiserslautern. Museum Ritter, Waldenbuch, among others. www.bettinablohm.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>At the heart of Passages is the idea that color is both a fixed presence and an unfolding experience, much like the Zen teaching from The Gateless Gate: “When you try to grasp it, you lose it. When you no longer try, it is there.” This paradox mirrors Johnson’s approach—his compositions vibrate with shifting relationships, yet they settle into a profound harmony when fully absorbed. His work does not seek to define color but to invite the viewer into its passage, embracing the impermanence and fluidity of visual experience. “Color is an evolving conversation,” says Johnson. “Each form is a portal, a way of moving through a visual space that is both structured and fluid. Passages is about that journey.” A seasoned painter with a deep commitment to abstraction, Johnson’s practice builds on the traditions of modernist color theory while carving a distinct, contemporary path. www.ErickJohnson.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>Greg Goldberg was born in 1973 in New York City, New York. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. I work in natural light and the paintings develop over a number of months. The color choices are determined by the seasonal quality of light and the evolving structure of the piece. There is an interplay between architectonic structure (order) and gestural brushwork (motion). As the paintings evolve, the intensity and density of color becomes a complex web, moving across and into space. The resulting visual history determines the character of each painting. www.GregoryGoldberg.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>My work is based on visualizations of energy, inspired by particle physics and forms in nature. Approaching the modification of code as a drawing tool, I generate particle collisions altering “behaviors” of the particles such as speed, curvature and gravity. After capturing interactions between particles, I translate the results into paintings, animations and other media. I aim for an intense visual experience where color, line, and form trace movement, energy and space. I utilize a range of media including animation, programming, printing, drawing, painting and mosaic. My paintings and works on paper are an interplay between digital means woven into traditional media with an emphasis on the hand. I have interpreted my paintings into large-scale commissions through the medium of glass tile mosaic. I simulate collisions to interact with an architectural space. Each pixel in the design becomes a small tile, enabling a rich array of color and texture. My animations play out the act of painting, giving the viewer an experience of forms growing, dissipating, and dissolving. Drawing in space and time, the animations slow down the act of viewing to become meditative. On large LED screens, the animations become large–scale paintings that move. The work reveals states of flux; mining the relationship between algorithmic data and the pictorial while exploring the emotional possibilities of abstraction. www.carterhodgkin.com</image:caption>

<image:caption>“All we are, all we see, is nature. Things grow. Or are made. Maybe by a human being, maybe by a bird or a bee. We make objects of all sizes, buildings, art. Then they get old, sometimes are torn down, even made to disappear, by water, wind, war, volcanoes, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, or fire. Or they fall down from their own weight, or are pushed over, stepped on, shot at, blown up, smashed. Yet, the pure material remains. The materials are reused down through the ages. Architecture and painting and sculpture are made from these raw and recycled materials. An artist's eye and hand moves over the materials while at the beach, or visiting an Italian city, or in the studio, remembers them as they used to be and rearranges them: the broken buildings, the stones, the tiles, the pigments. In my work I'm re-imagining the past, making it present.” – Hermine Ford www.hermineford.com</image:caption>
